problem

hello Dwight, the most frequent question seem to be the swing keel attachments. I don't know if there are problems or just concerns. My 1976 c22 checked out perfect. On my boat the chainplate eyebolts kept twisting in the deck and then they let the wet in. Catalina direct has a retrofit to fix it so I guess that is a common problem. the handbook also lists a stem reinforcement kit, reading from the book " boats built before '82 had an inherent weakness: forstay load was forward of the stem fitting's forward mounting bolts, supported only by the deck, in an area with many holes and small spaces " -- " it is common to see these C-22's with stem fittings pulled up from the deck ". again, my boat is ok. when I next am moved to do work on her, I will install one john

older catalina problems

We've owned our 1980 Cat 25 for three years. Last week I discovered that the core of the port coming (sp?) that holds the jib winch and jib cleat is mush. The cleat pulled out of the coming! The problem arises because the cleat, winch, and the jib eye/cam cleat have lost their "seal" from water. The core has the consistency of wet paper. I don't know how extensive it is. I've been advised that West System has the stuff to make the proper repair, after I've removed ath damaged core. Tomorrow, I'll look into the port coming. I love to sail, but I hate these problems.
