Does anyone have a diagram or photo showing all the cushions in a 1988 C22? I have a few missing and am trying to get them made.
Thanks

I would imagine you could decide where you want cushions, cut a brown paper pattern, and have to cushions made to fit. I think it is up to you! You can't be wrong if it is the way you want it!

Thanks,

We put a foam "topper" on an old bed we once had. Firm, but not overly so.

I was in Costco earlier today and noticed some really good prices on what they're calling a "gel-foam topper." Good, as in half the cost of 3" thick foam.

I was thinking of using the 3" stuff (also known as memory foam) instead of the foam for any furniture app - and chopping up a queen or king size "topper," after drawing a pattern - and seeing how the finished dimensions would be with no - or minimal - seams?

I wonder if "topper" memory foam is open or closed cell? I wonder, given the cover you make would be the first line of water-proofing, not the foam itslef - if that really makes any difference?

Anybody here crazy enough to think like I am ???

Ken,

I purchased the queen size 3" memory foam topper from Costco a couple months ago. I plan on either installing the memory foam in my cushion covers,(existing cushions have 3" foam), or I also thought about having new cushions made with 2" foam on the bottom, and 3" memory foam on top. We have a MK-II so I'm only having to do the two quarter berth cushions where we sleep. I know my wife sleeps much better and has less ackes when we use a 1" memory foam topper, so my thinking is that 3" of memory foam will have to be close to heaven to sleep on for her.

One of those winter projects I need to do.

My wife purchased generic cushions online for 1/4 the price of ready-made cockpit cushions. They are made of the same Weatherproof fabric as others. She bought them slightly larger than the cockpit seats. She simply cut and resewed the cusions to fit. I imagine there are many low-cost solutions out there.

Thanks,

Andrew

Thoughts of this nature is about your onliest option. I thought earlier about the question, and the dimensions of every cover in the boat would be a helluva lot of numbers. There are a few cushions that are symmetrical around the table, but the others are all tapered. Some more, some less. Without an old cushion, a pattern is about the only recourse.

Bruce,

I don't know how different an '81 is, but I'm at the beginning of sewing a complete set of cushion covers and would be happy to share my dimensions if they would help.

I sure would like those dimensions. I have a '77 with no cushions.

Make a pattern

Making a pattern is always the best way to go. Even using an old cushion and trying to get measurements the new cushions may not fit. As material and foam ages is shrinks and twists making the new cushion fit like the old one. With a new pattern that matches the space the new cushions fit perfectly.

Attached is a PDF file of the overall dimensions of the cushions in our C-22. There are a few fine points to watch out for. Only the seat back cushions are strictly rectangular. All of the other cushions have one or more tapered sides to fit the hull curvature. Also, the curved cuts of the V berth cushions are also tapered vertically to fit the hull taper. Otherwise, you will get a gap there. So use these dimensions for estimating purposes and if you don't have some of the cushions already, make an accurate pattern for the best fit. These dimensions could also be +/- a half inch here or there from the original design due to the factory cuts of the foam, which wander a little bit.

Another issue to consider is the table top cushion. The stock cushion's inboard edge aligns with the forward seat cushion edge. I'm cutting ours several inches longer to completely cover the table top and to align with the aft seat cushion corner and the inboard edge of the keel trunk. This makes it fit together better with the other cushions to make a full-width bed in the settee area. Along with that, I'm making an 11th cushion to cover the step and finish the "puzzle."

I hope this helps somebody. If you need more information, PM me and I'll do what I can to help.

Enjoy!

The first post owner's '88 is a New Style. Some of the cushions are different from the older style boats.

I hope this isn't off topic, but for those who have had their cushions recovered professionally, do mind if I ask how much it ran you?
