catalina capri 16

I have a 91 16ft catalina capri. There is no stern shroud to hold the boom up when not in use. Is this typical for this boat or did I buy a used boat with a missing piece. Would have loved to keep boom up to but a sail cover over all but not able to with boom on the floor of cockpit.
Anyone with insights I would be grateful!

I have a 14" Lido, also without a backstay. I used the jib halyard to hold the boom in a horizontal position(obviously at the dock and not sailing)

You should rig a "topping lift" on your boat.

I had the same issue with my Capri 16.5. I put in a topping lift and used that to hold the boom up. Worked great.

Amsteel type line, runs through the cheek block and forward to a small cleat.

It worked good.

With the Capri 22 I've got a boomkicker instead, which is good because I've got an outhaul and 2 reefing lines on the boom already.
