Catalina 400 Stanchion Mounts

I have recently purchased a Catalina 400 after having a Catalina 30 for a number of years. One thing I have found is that the inner mounting of the stanchions is actually a self-tapping screw into the deck. These screws are now spinning in the hole and need to be fixed. I would like to through bolt them, but can not seem to get to the underside of the deck unless removing of most of the interior. Has anyone else had the same issue? What has anyone else done to rectify this situation?

I don’t have the 400 but if it’s a machine screw, there is probably an aluminum plate under the glass, you could either drill and tap for the next larger size or use a thread insert to keep the same size. If a “wood” screw i would look at marinehowto.com article on bedding and follow the route and fill procedure.

I just changed out my aft gate stanchions and had to drill access hole in a lazerette to get to the nuts.

BTW one post on a subject is sufficient. The monitors will suggest moving it if you would get better responses elsewhere.
