Catalina 355

I'm looking at buying the subject boat (2012) I noticed something that was a little odd around the companionway doors. The textured areas of gelcoat had rust colored junk bleeding up from below. The broker said this was normal and could be easily removed with acetone. He also said that it doesn't recur. Has anyone else dealt with this before and does it become a pain to deal with?

We have a 13 385 and have not seen this. Could it be a finish from the companionway doors?

I have a 2012 C355. Haven't seen anything like what you describe. I believe the teak doors are unfinished from the factory - could they have been coated with something that bled onto the surrounding gelcoat?

That's a reflex answer from the broker, they use it for any visual defects, he probably doesn't know what it is either.
If you could wipe it off with acetone why didn't someone already do it ?

Thanks for the responses. I initially thought it was teak oil... It seemed strange that on an otherwise immaculate boat that this problem would have been ignored. I'll see what else I can find out about it and report back.
