hello, we are the new owners of a 1988 Catalina 34. Many projects to do, currently have pulled out the water damaged sink and counter. While we sort out where the water came in from, we are considering what type of material to use for the new counter. Recycled glass is leading thought, anyone else replaced their counter?

Welcome to this fine site, great folks and support. For the most definitive answers and support check out the c34.org site. This is the # 1 site dedicated to owners of Catalina 34s, one of Frank Butler’s greatest builds.

Just one person’s biased opinion.

We used Corian that we found locally at a countertop fabricator. They were happy to sell remnants at a low price.

Interesting timing on the question.

One of our skippers wrote a definitive article on JUST THIS issue in a recent issue of Mainsheet magazine. We also, of course, have it posted in our Tech Notes Online on our C34IA website. To access that one restricted portion of our website, you need to be a C34IA member. www.c34ia.org.

His article discusses how to remove the old countertop, the tricks for accessing the screws, sizing and selection of replacement material options and photographs.

There is a value to membership, even though all of the rest of our website is free for anyone to use.
