The steering in my catalina 30 wheel is a little loose. I took the deck plate up to expose the cable and wheel connected to the rudder, but there are no adjustments boats or screws. I presume the adjustment screws/bolts are in the column. I have never taken the column apart, any one have any suggestions or info on how best to make the adjustments?
thanks,
Steve

Do you not have a cable that goes around a sheave under the deck to the rudder post?
If so, that cable can be tightened. I have an Edson.

The steering cable that is attached to the quadrant (the wheel on the rudder post) at two points has threaded studs on each cable end. If you tighten the nuts on each cable end you will take up the slack. Make sure you tighten both nuts the same amount or the steering wheel center position will change. There are two nuts on each cable end. The one farthest out is the jam nut to prevent the inner nut from coming off.

Thanks for your reply. So the the cable does not go around the sheave and up in to the column where the cable end, but can be tightened on the to sheave, under the deck, which is connected to the rudder post?

www.edsonmarine.com has a complete manual for your steering system, sometimes diagrams and/or pictures from the original manufacturer do help. Good luck.
