I am in the process of purchasing my first sailboat...a C30. Though I have some experience sailing, my experience is limited. The boat is located in Emeryville, in the San Francisco Bay. Is there someone that can recommend a person that will show me all the in's and out's of my C30, sailing techniques, etc?

c 30

I have a 36 Catalina and to be truthful----they all sail well. my brother had a 30 and it was very easy to get around the bay. He bought it new in 1980 and has since given it to our brother in law who continues to actively sail it today. My suggestion is to get ahold of Farallon Sales in Alameda and get the fleet captain of the 30s on the bay and see about a sail. I am the fleet captain for the 36s and know that they can place an add for you in their newsletter or you may want to check out S.F.sailing .com for crewing OR even advertize in Lat.38 Regards Gary

Congratulations!!!

C30s are great boats! You'll love it. Gary gave some very sound advice. You might also consider joining the Int'l C30 Association. Their website is http://aztec.com/ic30a (no www.). Good luck! LaDonna

where to learn sailing

If you are really new to sailing you should consider a US sailing association class. I have sailed a sunfish most of my childhood and understood the principals of sailing, but had no clue how to sail anything larger. I took the first two levels of the basic keelboat and crusing classes and then bought a catalina 27. I can't even imagine trying to sail without those lessons. Besides you learn how to crash someone elses boat into the dock rather than your own! I also just acquired a catalina 30 and am in ballena bay alameda. You can email me some questions (r_clack@hotmail.net) and I can answer them offline. Richard
