Do you still have fuel in your bilge? I don't think a shop vac is a good idea. If you have a mechanical bilge pump I would and have used that to remove gas from the bilge.
To help find the leak I would use flexible dip stick to find the level of the fuel where it stopped leaking. That should give you some clue as to where to look for the leak.
To get rid of the smell I had to use an enzyme detergent to break the fuel down and get it to emulsify so that it could be pumped out, via the mechanical bilge pump. I then had to scrub the bilge with detergent to get rid of the smell. If the smell is still there I would paint the bilge I didn't have to do that.
