I have a 1982 Catalina 30 and found a set of davits that may work for me
What do you think

Think about what? (Type Davits).

With any 30 ft boat, consider the weight distribution as well. If you intend to hang a hard bottom or other heavy dinghy and/or motor back there, it can significantly change the way the boat rides particularly into a heavy sea.

The davits could work for you, if you use a light weight dinghy. I use a Walker Bay 8 with the inflation collar, less than 100 lbs. total, on my Catalina 310. The 3.3 Mercury OB mounts on the stern rail. This setup can affect the trim, but by distributing storage items below, and keeping the water tank (mounted under the v-berth) full, trim is still suitable for cruising.

Yes. Sorry, I meant to mention that I installed Martek davits on my C310. Installation was not difficult, and the dinghy has been held securely in all kinds of sailing conditions.

OP, for some reason I cannot see your photo's. Probably blocked on my work PC. I put a set of davits on my 1977 C30 this season, love them. I hang an Achilles 9'6" aluminum floor dinghy off them, weight is 103 lbs.

8' dink is small unless you are alone or with a very small person. The tube size is quite different in some of the inflatables so that is something to consider too.

There is another post going on about sailors getting wet in their dink, so check it out.

Also check out Garhauer Marine for davits.

The 8' Walker Bay with inflatable collar holds quite a bit, and is very stable. It's the perfect size for the stern of a 30' boat, also.

Did you put wood blocks between the davit and the boat? It sort of looks that way in the picture. Thanks in advance.

I put a small fender between the aft side of the dinghy and the davit. I then tighten the dinghy's lines to secure it and to prevent swaying.

I am sorry, I meant where you mounted the davits to the hull.
Okay, I think you are referring to the shims on the rail clamps. They are supplied by Martek and allow the davit to clamp to the stern rail. I had to fabricate a few extra shims myself, since the port side stern rail did not line up with the starboard side. The shims are made of starboard (plastic), and are easy to work with.
