I am trying to make my own curtains for my 1982 30 and am having trouble understanding how to make them as the windows change in height from the beginning of the window to the other end ...any suggestions ? Or place to buy fabric curtains

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
Mine taper down in size to accommodate the way the window goes. Try making a pattern out of paper. I would install the curtain tacks first and then measure for the curtains.

Just another option....My wife decided to try bamboo roll-ups. She cut the lengths and the height to cover the widest part of the port. They come with a small valence to cover the top portion & screws. A small hook top & bottom for when the shade is rolled up or to secure it while down. I also framed the ports with vinyl moulding, so the frames and shades match nicely.

I cut mine evenly. I was going to rehem them to match windows but my wife likes them the way they are.

I made 1 curtain and tried it the above way but the bottom of the curtain hangs away from the wall about 4 in , i would loike it close to the wall

When it is gathered the inside fold is about 2" from the side. I didn't like the pleated look that was stock.

I made curtains like that above, and like said, the wife liked them very well. However, on my next set, (coming soon), I'm just going to put velcro tabs on the corners. When I don't need them, I just tear them off. It works well.
On the other kind, I've rarely seen a curtain track that worked well. Or look good. The ones I have now slide on rods held by teak blocks. And although it generally works ok, with the rods, and pleated curtains, it looks like a sea-side brothel..

I am thinking of dropping the curtain idea and making some inserts for the inside if the windows our of colored coroplast and just hiding them in the quarter berth when not used ...any thoughts or anybody already do this

You can easily make them out of those windshield shades, like you stick in the auto to leave it in the sun. Serves several purposes, including salvaging the bank account; and your sanity..

Hey L.P, I made the brothel style, SS rods, teak brackets and cushion fabric curtains. I love the look. They are larger than the frame and have a top and bottom rod to keep them flush. I sewed in button holes every 2"...I'll have to get a pic or two

LP,

Just a suggestion, but many years ago I almost bought a Chris Craft sailboat. They made them for a few years and not a bad boat. I wasn't familiar with them so I didn't persue it further.

One of the first things that caught my eye was the used blinds instead of curtains.
I went to a Home depot and was able to order different widths on the PVC thin/mini blinds. I used ones that had the rods for opening instead of string types. I remember the shortest heights I could order were 12" verticle.

I mounted the blinds and removed the extra blades to match the window angle. I easily adjusted the strings (running thru the blades) for this angled look and was able to attach hold-down clips.

I adjusted the pull up strings to take out slack. They came out great. Been on for about 15 years now. I did cut the opener (barrel type) rods short, about 3 " in length. My original fabric curtains had mildew stains. I also see this problem on alot of boats with older curtains.
