Catalina 30: can a "u" dinette be changed to "l"?

Hello! Past sailing life in the PNW / Puget Sound area included a Catalina 27 and I am now (after a motorcycle detour of 15 years / 200K (s)miles) in active search for a Mark I Catalina 30.

I found one for locally in great shape overall but it has the "U" shaped dinette area, I know that is preferred by some, but I would like to have the "L" configuration. Is it possible to change from "U" to "L"? If so what is involved?

Thanks in advance for any information or advice!!!

Ericson 29 Southport..
The C30 has a midship engine. So unless the engine is relocated the short answer would be no. Sorry to be so blunt, but I know of no way to change the interior layout of that boat..

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
I am not sure of what is in the area near the forward bulkhead as I had the L layout in a 90 Catalina 30 MKII TRBS. It would probably mean a lot of glassing etc.

With the U shaped dinette there is a little more storage, I would imagine. It would be a great place to tuck an AC away. I would keep the layout to the factory layout or you could be in for more work than you desire.

I believe the forward seat is screwed in place and can be removed. The cushions will have to be redone in the corner as they are angled. The table is also different.

The conversion is a simple carpentry job. I believe the 'U' portion at the front of the seating area is a fiberglass piece that may require some glassing skills to remove and clean up. I've got an 'L' shape area and I'm converting it to 'U' shape with starboard and screws. If you do convert to the 'L' what are you going to do with the short table and mount? I'd be interested in those mounting parts, without the actual table part (it's too heavy to ship). The 'L' table is much longer, and heavier, but when properly mounted to the bulkhead allows much more room in the cabin. Drop me a PM if you want more information.
