The admiral wants me to make some sliding doors or at least some kind of cover to hide the groceries we store on the port side shelf above dinette seat backrest. Has anyone done anything here? or do you have any ideas. Attached is a pic of the shelf & groceries.

If you close it off, the better for insects, and

vermine. Leave it open! you can see what you have and the bugs are less likely to show up. r.w.landau

Storage

On our C30, my wife stores all that stuff directly below where they are now, in the areas behind the upright cushions of the port settee. Lots of room there. fair winds Dave

Hard tack arrangement

Looks like a hard tack would completely rearrange what you have anyway. I suggest some wicker baskets secured with an elastic cord (or two).

Andy, those will not move!

each item was individually put in it's place so as not to move! Ask my Admirable! Point is she doesn't want to see them! I gave the Admirable two places under the cushions in the hold. The Items are still carefully stowed like seen in Ken's picture. r.w.landau

Stoweage vs Convenience vs Appearance

From the picture posted, this is very convenient (as long as you are not sailing) but fails the stowage and good boatkeeping award. I guess we have to compensate on all three issues. Underneath in the hold is best stowage award (assuming spillage doesn't block access to a crucial thru-hull or something), but it sure isn't convenient. My guess is that Ken was his goods to be easy to reach, hard to see, and stowed as to prevent any spillage. Thats why I suggested the baskets. The gear hammocks work too.

Anchor Down

Quick & Effective

I have a C30 too. Netting and hooks, baby; netting and hooks. Or small dia. shock cord and hooks. She might like it.

Stowage

Do what Hunter does, build a door on a hinge that folds down. Much more efficient than sliding doors, and makes the boat look much more orderly

Dancin Bear, For that space I think that I

would make strong canvas covers that are attached permanently at the bottom and at the top with the turn button "Common Sense" fasteners. Two or three battens run lengthwise would help keep them flat. http://www.rochfordsupply.com/product_listing.asp_Q_CatID_E_411_A_SubCatID_E_446

Sliding doors

Ken, I have sliding door on my CS30. It looks good but a pain to get things in and out. Canvas is better but looks "camping". May be some nice window drapery material will do better.

A good seamstress could cover the canvas with any

decorative fabric that pleased the eye. It could even be quilted. You need the canvas for the strength. In Bietzpadlin I use 14 ounce denim for my interior canvas. Also sunbrella would serve very well. Edit to add: A good upholstery fabric that matchs the cushions would coordinate nicely.

How about some sliding smoked plexi doors?

With teak handles. Easy to build and not very expensive. We sometime jusk keep all our cabin clutter in the rear bunk.

Portside Shelf Restraint

I used netting, then switched to small diameter shock cord and then fabricated a restraint using a length of 1/2 X 2 teak that slides into two slotted blocks fore and aft. Thought about doors but was concerned about reducing the storage volume of the space.
