Catalina 30 boom height

I am looking at a 1987 Catalina 30 mkii tall rig. I was surprised at how low the boom was, I am 5'10" and thought for sure I would be able to stand under the boom without contact. The low boom forces you to squat down while under the Bimini top. Is this normal? Is this the case with all Catalina 30s?
Thanks

Not on my 78'. It just does sit on top of the bimini that is about an inch above my head and I am 5'10" also.

It does interfere with me folding up the bimini when we leave as I keep it covered when the boat is empty. I keep my boom sheeted to starboard and that solves the problem.

You could always take in the topping lift when not under sail.

I stand @ only 5'-7", not quite a giant amongst men. I set my bimini a high as I could so my 6' plus friends had headroom.

Then the boom interfered with the bimini. So, I then raised my boom. There is a 6 bolt pattern for the gooseneck fitting. I moved it up using the top hole locations as the new bottom holes. I drilled & tapped the four new holes & now I have no interference with boom & bimini.

I have also done this on friends' boats having the same problem. If going this route, make sure you have enough room vertically between your sail & the top masthead crane.
