While inspecting my '93 Catalina 28 before I put her in the water I noticed two thick red cables rubbing against the drum connected to my rudder. I think they are the ground cables, but I'm not sure. I've been having a problem with the master reset, on the engine, resetting while under power. I wonder if I'm shorting out the electrical system on the rudder.

If They're Red

The cables are definitely not "ground" wires. Red generally means +12 Volts. Their thickness is telling me these possibly are the heavy cables that run from the battery switch to the starter motor. I would re-route these cables to avoid contact with any moving parts ASAP to avoid a fire or worse. Rodney Kidd C-38 #297, Flying Bear
