Catalina 28 MKII 2004 Kamperland
Hi,
I am the new proud owner of a 2004 Catalina 28MKII in Belgium ( Europe )
It is a very nice American boat and we like it very much !
Help : I'd like to take off the Mast to put the boat inside during winter season.
Is there some one who can help me with following : where do I disconnect the electric wires
that I assume are going up in the mast ??
Nowhere I see or find some connectors , are they getting visible when lifting the mast ?
Second question : wich type of autopilot can I install on this boat ( wheel steering )
Thank You for any explanation ,
:)

The wires are inside the mast. To take the mast off, tie a rope halfway up the mast. I use a boson chair and my son to do that. Hook the rope to a suitable hoist. At my club we have a manual hoist for this purpose. With the rope snug on tension, undo all shroud lines. Then raise the mast 6 inches and undo the electrical connectors and start lowering away.

For a Autopilot, I have a Raymarine X-1 Smartpilot with wheel drive and ST6002 display at helm, 2009, on my Catalina 270 that works well.

Thanks you Stu ,
I have a Universal 26hp diesel motor .
I had the luck to buy this nice boat , that was imported from the USA to Holland in 2005 and laying here in the harbor ; From the first moment I heard it became for sale, I toke an option on it , tested it and bought it .
We always had smaller boats , now we can stay on it for as long as we want , everything is on board .

Again, congratulations on a VERY very nice boat.

The reason I asked about your engine is this: We have collected years and years of information on Universal diesel engines on our C34 website, and you are very welcome to review and use that material.

You are also welcomed to join our C34 Forum, in case you may have mnore specific questions. We have many forum members who do not own Catalina 34s, but choose to join both this forum and our C34 Forum. You can do BOTH.

Hi Joli

I have owned a C 270 for a number of years.....the systems are almost identical to a 28.
Mast wiring with plug will be at the base and inside the mast. Raise the mast about a foot
With a crane and disconnect the plugs.
A wheel pilot i.e. Raymarine works nicely.
What a sweet boat you have.

Thank you Brian,
my hull is #740 , if we take the mast down, I'll let you know how it went , probably I put the boat ashore mast up , better of course to put it inside , we can have strong winters here .
Fair winds to you too .
