Catalina 25 table

Why is the Catalina fold up table such a heavy beast ? (traditional layout) Unless the 1" particleboard is saturated with beer, er, um, I mean root beer, I'm not sure why it is or needs to be so heavy. Does anyone have a set of plans, and/or some web pics of a "new and improved" table design ? Something in nice light pine, center drink holder, rimmed ends ?

New Table

I don't know if your table was like the one on my C-30, but it sounds the same. Mine was particle board and weighed about 25# I think. I got sick of breaking my back putting it up so I bought a sheet of oak plywood and made my own table with the old hardware and fiddles. It looks a lot better and you can get a "Polyshades" finish that looks like the existing wood. It only took about 4hr to build all together. Good Luck.

Use the old as a template

I've been contemplating what Brian just suggested. Those old tables are made out of particle board & are ugly as hell, if you ask me! I have a source for nice mahogony veneered plywood. Now I have no excuse!LaDonna

Temp Table fix

I agree the plastc covered particle board is heavy and UGLY! I am going to make a new one out of a hardwood veneer plywood like described;HOWEVER in the meantime I have used a piece of "Old World Map" vinyl wall paper (from Home Depot) to cover he side of the table that shows when the table is stowed.....looks much better but doesn't help the weight factor! It IS just a temporary fix.
