Does anyone have a fix for the drain problem in the 25's icebox and/or sink? Mine seem to hold water toward the BACK instead of toward the front(icebox) or center(sink) where the drains are. I have been told to use the icebox as dry food storage and carry an icechest...I don't find this acceptable, I'd really like the things on my boat to work. Thanks in advance. Fred

C25 Draining

I had the same problem on my 1984 C25, but I don’t have a good answer for you. An inch of water didn’t bother me when I was using the icebox and had ice in it, but I liked to keep it dry when I wasn’t using it. Since the sinks and icebox have the same problem, I figured the cause was that the whole galley counter was not level. The cure would be to raise the back or lower the front of the counter. I’m not sure if the icebox would interfere with the panel behind it if this were tried. This was a project I wasn’t willing to tackle, so I just kept a large sponge handy to mop out the water when I was leaving the boat. It always was an irritation. One thing I did do was clean out the backflow valve, which had accumulated a gunky buildup and was impeding flow out of the icebox. I later removed the valve entirely, and then had to remember to close the thru hull when sailing. I usually left the lid half way off between trips, to let the box dry out. I understand your frustration. A lot of little inconveniences and compromises on a boat seem to add up, to make the use of the boat harder than it should be. My current Catalina has a sink that is level, and it drains great. One of my first thoughts when I used this sink was “now how hard was that?”

Ice Box Drain

Just a thought... Could you drill a hole on the low side, and move the drain hose over to it? Then plug and fill the other drain. It seems like it would be pretty simple if you can get any access to the bottom of the ice box, and on a boat that is always a pretty big if. Good Luck

Great Idea John

I figured someone could come up with a more creative solution. As I remember it, there was pretty good access to the starboard rear corner of the icebox if the drawers were pulled out. That would take care of the icebox problem. I wonder if there is a sink replacement made with a dished bottom that would fit into the rectangular cutout of the counter. An oval or round sink might work if some type of mounting plate could be made to fit on, or in the counter.

Fred; If you don't want to drill holes in the box, (mine is stainless steel) use your dinghy de-watering pump. A few strokes gets most of the water and a quick sponge-out gets the rest. Larry
