Hello all, I am looking at purchasing my first boat and am considering the Catalina 25. My only big question is this: Will my family of 6 fit it? For clarification, my children are young and little and we would probably only have the boat a few years before upgrading. Also, we would only spend long weekends on it in Puget Sound. Any advice?

Try the C25 Association website

they're specialists, see the link Depends on the layout (C25, NOT C250) The dinette has somewhat less room in appearance, the traditional is "bigger" inside. One or two small kids could use the quarter berth, two of U up front, then the other 2 in the saloon. Pretty crowded, although many C25ers have made useful full berths in the saloon with great inventiveness.

Perfect

Perfect as 1st boat. almost as big as a 27. Easy to learn. Stable enough for inland waters or ocean (however watch the weather in WA. A 25 may get cantankerous in even medium weather) well built and enough cruising features for weekends. Will likely re-sell in a couple years at the same price as purchased at. Have fun.

Chris, What is your goal? Have you sailed?

Without knowing how much experence you have it is very hard to recommend any boat. If it is your first boat and if you are learning to sail at the same time then it or a C22 is a great place to start. Taking your family out if you are just learning is not a very good idea at all. Learning to sail makes a C22 an excellent choice. Smaller boats are better to control and you will learn much faster. They are also easy to sell allowing you to upgrade later. When you become proficient and comfortable in various winds and currents you will have no problem in your selection of a boat to fit your family. The worst thing any new sailor can do is scare the wife and kids while he learns his boat. After you have your sea legs I think you'll probably go for a 30 footer as anything less probably just won't fit that bunch of would-be pirates. Ray

C25 is perfect first time boat

The first sailboat I ever set foot on was my first sailboat, a 25 footer. I currently own a C25 fin and I believe it is a perfect first time boat. It is very forgiving and not too big and not too small.
