Ok all, I hope this topic doesn't take us into the nether...

I am setting up a new primary anchor system and have settled on the 22 lb. Bruce. My boat does not have any bow rollers, etc., for ease of use. I have a bracket on my bowsprit for holding a Danforth, but that will not work for the claw-type. How do I store the anchor when not in use? Should I fit a bow roller or tray? Do I stow the anchor in the lazarette? What have you folks done? Will anchoring without any trays or rollers hurt the boat? Will anchoring to one side or the other (where the cleats are) create instability in higher winds? Also, do you use mousing wire or do zip ties work for the shackles?

Kind of a lot, but I am kind of in the dark on these. Thanks for your help!

Why not ask these guys? http://www.catalina-capri-25s.org/forum/default.asp?CAT_ID=1

No bow roller is not an issue. You could rig a short bridle to even things out, but any boat like that will sail a bit at anchor. You could also rig a bridle from the rode back to a winch a "cock" the boat to avoid swinging.

If you're buying a new Bruce, please be advised that Bruce went out of business. You might want to consider a Rocna or Manson Supreme for much better holding than a Bruce. www.rocna.com, good material there. If you already have the Bruce, it'll do fine. That size is just great for your boat. FWIW, I had a 16.5 Bruce on our C34 which worked pretty well (90%) of the time, until i bought our 22# Rocna - drase me off the bow when it sets! You could use a lighter Rocna or MS and get better holding. Not to start yet another anchor debate...

PS - we had a C25 from 1987 to 1998
