Welcome to the site Theo.

You will find an encyclopedia of information under the Search menu and Boat Info menu located in the uppermost bar, with some of it specific to Catalina 22.

Theodore,

WOW! South Africa! Some photos would be GREAT,(we like looking at boats). Wonder how she got there? Is she possibly the Jaguar-22 version that was manufactured in England under license from Catalina Yachts?

Are you familiar with the National Catalina-22 Association? We have a bi-monthly publication called the MainBrace, and there are always articles on maintenance, along with other information on what's going on in the C-22 world. A couple issues ago I wrote an article on disassembling, cleaning, lubricating, and re-assembling the Lewmar winches commonly found on the Catalina-22. Membership in the association also includes access to all the archived copies of the MainBrace, and access to your own PDF copies of the C-22 Tech Manual. The Tech Manual comes in two parts, with one being the updates. It contains over 400 pages from over 40 years on just about anything you need to do to fix, repair, modify, tune, etc your C-22.

Welcome to the family,

Hi and many thanks

There are a number of Catalina's in SA. I don't think they were ever built here
I will take some decent pics shortly and maybe we can identify her origin
I have only just begun working on her , removing all wooden components topside and in the cabin and generally giving her a good clean and tidy up . Then I can access what's needs to be done One question can you identify the winch ?

best

Theo

factory winch

That winch is not the standard one from the factory at least in the pre 86 series which yours seems to be. You can get replacement winches from catalina direct and other sources, Here is a picture or two of the factory model on my Cat 22.

Tks . the existing winch is working fine just a clean and some lube
I have removed the fwd hatch cover and frame completely and discovered some delamination around the area Does not appear to penetrate to far into the deck
if I clear away the broken bits of ply and rehabilitate with resin and chops strain fibres
do you think this will be ok the deck area is very firm
