Hello everyone!
I'm new to sailing and have Catalina 22 swing keel (1976). Recently lost my rudder to the sea. From what I've read on the forum and Catalina Direct, that I've had original kick up rudder.
The whole assy from Catalina direct is way over my budget , so I've decided to get one together myself. I already got the Aluminum casting, now I want to build rudder blade out of 2 pieces glued together 1/2" marine plywood (and glass it over ).
Question: Is anybody can provide the dimension for the blade ?
Maybe a drawing or digital picture of the blade ?
The trailing and leading edge dimensions would be helpful as well.
I've tried to get this info from Catalina Direct, those nice guys kindly said "No".
Any output on that matter much appreciated.
Thanks everyone.
Andrey.

Measurements

We were forced to remove our boats this past weekend from our local lake because of water drawdown for marina repairs. So I spent today cleaning the boat and the rudder was right there in the driveway.

See attachment.

Thank you Watercolors!,
The measurements are good, this will get me started on the project.
Another thing I want to ask is the thickness of the blade along the length of the rudder.
I did not even think it was 2" thick in the middle, cause it is only 1" space inside the aluminum casting where blade pivots. Now I have to make it out of 4 pieces of 1/2" ply, since I already bought the plywood. To get the thickness right would you say it is pretty much the same shape as a keel?
Should I just measure the shape of the keel and scale it down ? And what about the thickness changing from the top (alum casting) to the bottom of the blade ?

The working part of the rudder is the bottom 37 inches, that would be 2 inches thick through that area. The rest of the rudder can be as thick as you desire because that area does not come in contact with the water.

The taper on the working part would be in somewhat keel shape but the leading edge has the same shape as the trailing edge, not thicker in the front.

Same thing happend to me. I made one real quick out of 2 1/2" PLY glued together. Did not even Glass so I could keep sailing this weekend.

The thickness at the top where it fits into the flip up metal on mine is 1 1/8" 1" cavetates a little.

I am looking into having a HDPE (plastic) NACA 0012 airfoil cut.
a 1 1/2 inch plastic (or wood) will work for the airfoil shape. (You can buy for $600+)
The plastic is under $200.00 looking for someone with a CNC lathe to cutit out for me now already have the design finished in CAD Could get a second one mad if you would like possibly (Wont be legal for one design raceing )
