Hi all, newbie Catalina 22 owner here. I picked up a 1984 with trailer and 9.9 hp Chrysler outboard for $1500. Just doing some cleaning and minor repairs before I take it out for the first time. Overall it's in great shape with a nice solid hull and deck. Just finished replacing the corroded switch panel and installing new lights etc. It has a manual bilge pump in the cockpit and was wondering if I am missing something on it. All I see through the slot is a bladder with a about a 1/2" diameter metal nipple....no hinge for a handle. It didn't come with a handle and was wondering if a tube just fits over this nipple to pump. The boat did come with some kind of handle. It's a CD brand, it's gold colored tube about 2 feet long with a black ball grip. It has a slotted fitting on the other end that has a 1/4" pin that swivels. I can't figure it out since it doesn't fit on the bilge pump. Anyone know what this is used for and if I am missing something on my bilge connection? Also, do most people upgrade from the backstay adjustment that came from the factory. It seems like a lot going on with this system and looks to me to interfere with the traveler. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you have a diaphragm pump and if you can find a tube handle that fits snuggly over that nub, you then pump the handle up and down to activate it. Any tube that fits and is about 8 inches long will work.

Thanks for your responses. When I first seen the handle I figured it was a tiller extension but didn't see where it connected to the tiller. The PO did say it has a newer tiller so it probably is a leftover part. I am looking forward to taking her out. Just need to replace some thru hull fittings and the keel cable hose. I was hoping to find a hose locally that would work but not having any luck.

Any marine stores around you? Sheilds exhaust hose is super tough and would work great.
If not marine stores, tractor supply might have something similar. I think the manufactuers used to use radiator hose which worked fine but the wire coil rusted around salt water.
