The MK-II version came out in 1995. They basically only share the sails with the rest of the C-22's. The hull is 8" wider, and the interior is completely different,(and in my opinion, a much better design with more room thanks to the wider hull). The MK-II also has an anchor locker forward, like the 2nd generation, and a safer enclosed fuel locker also like the 2nd generation C-22's. With the introduction of the MK-II also came the new improved swing keel design. Gone was the problems associated with the poor cast iron castings of the 1st and 2nd generation swing keels. Not sure, but at least on our wing keel version,(2002 model), it's the same wing keel used on the Capri-22's,(I believe this is also true on the fin keel version). This is a different wing keel from the ones used on the 2nd generation C-22's. Also gone is the "pop-top" design offered on the 1st and 2nd generation C-22. The MK-II version cabin top is hindged at the forward end, and the rear section lifts up and is supported by stainless steel arms. Take a look at my album in my public profile, you'll see lot's of MK-II pictures, but keep in mind, we've modified the interior a bit converting the V-berth area for a more comfortable head and for luggage storeage area,(the ladies like the added privacy and room in the head). We're set-up to only sleep 2 on the quarter berths. Much nicer and more comfortable in our opinion for a cruising couple. Having owned a 1st generation swing keel C-22, we REALLY LIKE the improvements in the MK-II version. In keeping with Catalina's newer designs, there is NO exterior wood to maintain. Simply plastic and stainless steel. Some say they have the personality of a Clorox bottle, but I would rather sail, than maintain the exterior wood. A simple rinsing after a day out in the ocean, and it's all done. Our MK-II is extremely stable and has the feel of a much larger boat. Many have asked us if she's a 25. Too bad Catalina has discontinued making them.
