Honda 8HP

My previous boat was an 85 swing which I used to motor / sail to Catalina. I bought the Honda 8HP long shaft and it did a terrific job getting my family there and back. Now the same motor is on our C25 wing and it still has enough power to drive this boat. Lots of power to spare on the C22.

Best cat. 22 motor

Hi Bill, Have you looked in the Forum Archives here? Lots of good info.on motors. My Cat. 22 came with a 3 hp short shaft Johnson. With drop down mount seems to do fine. Will come out of water in swell but not much of a problem powers boat fine. I picked up a 3 hp Mercury, and it is also fine. Cat. Manual says use a 5-8hp I belive. Best of Luck good Sailung, Jack

Cat engine

Bill; My C-22 had a Honda 7.5 on a mount. It was a good choice for ocean work. Honda now makes an 8hp that would work well. IMHO, you want a four-stroke to push a loaded boat into wind and swell.

Honda 8.8 4 stroke

I have a Honda 8.8 4 stroke which definitly has the power needed. The weight though is to much, I would recomend going with one of the 2 stroke light weights, 8 hp, which solves the weight problem.

6 hp Nissan 4 stroke

Hi, I recently bought a Nissan 4 stroke 6 hp. It works great. I changed the prop to a 7 inch pitch and kept the standard 8 inch for a spare. No problem reaching hull speed at half throttle. It eats very little gas and is light at 57 pounds. I bought it over the net from Defender Marine for about 1250. I would recommend adding the alternator kit, and see if you can get defender to install it. You cannot do it yourself as you need a flywheel puller Frank Gloss
