Hi. I have a 1977 Cat 30 tall rig with bowsprit and roller furler. I would like to install an anchor roller and windlass. I have been reviewing Fred Ficcara's article regarding the use of a Lewmar pro series 700 windless. It looks great. However, the installation is somewhat different than with a Furler mounted on the bowsprit. So, Im wondering if anyone has made such an instalation with an anchor roller wounted to the bowsprit. Any ideas/help with this would be appreciated. Thanks, John

That's my proseries windlass install in the photo section. I don't think that a bowsprit should make any difference, in fact my set up on a standard cat30 would work better if there was more space between the windlass and the bow roller. If you want some more detail about the install let me know and I'll email you. I have used the windlass quite a bit this summer and it works great. Just wish the Cat 30 had a deeper locker for the chain.

We installed a maxwell windless on our 1985 tall rig Catalina 30 - we needed the anchor well reinforced because we have 50 feet of chain. We have a furlex furling and have to gently assist the anchor off its roller to start - otherwise it works wonderfully.
