I currently own a Catalina 27 and think about upgrading to a Catalina 30 mk III.
Since there are none in close proximity where I could measure the v berth I was wondering if somebody who owns one has a tape measure and could post the length of the v berth (I am 6'4).
Thanks

I was on a mKii yesterday and at the longest point I measured 76" , I am 6'1" and most of the berths are short. The dinette is 6' max ,the aft berth is 6'4" . I don't believe that these changed in the MK iii. Also max headroom is 72.5" at centre.

Cheers

The chief engineer on our 30 is 6'2" and he sleeps in the aft or man cave. That is your best bet. I'm 5" and have lots of options on where to sleep but need a mast step to put the halyard on the main.We all have challenges.?

I'm 6'2" and sleep in V-berth of a C27, with a big fluffy pillow behind my head, so now you have me puzzled. Either I shrink when I go to bed or my 27 is really long in the Vberth. I did remove the shelf in the bow for more space. I would sleep in the quarterberth but it always seems to be full of crap.

I owned a 1986 Catalina 30 for 12 years. I'm 6'5 and solved the V-berth problem by removing the little bulkhead located at the bow. Had plenty of leg room after that. Even had a cushion made that extended into that area. One of the many reasons we eventually bought our 310 (no v-berth) was besides feeling a bit claustrophobic it was getting harder to turn around and get out of the v-berth. So if you are tall consider that getting in and out will also get harder with age.

I agree with Garry, it's not that easy to get in and out of. We or I sleep with my head facing aft. I believe I saw that the length along the hull was 81". I love our v birth especially after investing in a 3" foam mattress pad from BJ's. The admiral doesn't like it. She feels like it a casket. She is a bit claustrophobic plus she doesn't sleep well and I snore which doesn't help. I love the C31 set up. Maybe someday.

Same sleeping arrangement. With the shelf removed I have the bow stuffed with pillows and I face aft, much easier to get up that way. would love a 310 but they are few and far between and proud when you find them.

Catalina 30 Sleeping Position

Amazing! I've NEVER heard of ANYONE sleeping with his or her head forward in a V berth.

Gee, I thought the "front" was where your FEET went. :D

We have one of the largest, if not THE largest V berths in the general size (30 to 36 feet) of our boats. We started out in the aft cabin, but then moved forward since there is so much room there.

Dang, Catalina made a whole lot of boats for "vertically challenged" skippers. Really. Try the "0" line: C320, C350, etc.

Horizontally challenged? The C34 has the BIGGEST V berth of any boat around.

Try one. :)

Re: Catalina 30 Sleeping Position

among other things we find it much easier to get in and out of the v-berth with our feet forward, especially if both sides are occupied.

Quite...

Most folks' feet are smaller than their heads. :D
