I checked the archives and could not find an article on the how-to of changing out the hot water heater on the 30......mine is blown, shot, kaput !!! It appears that I have to either A) cut fiberglass on the aft birth, or B) remove the desiel tank in order to change the hot water heater on my cat 30.... Has anyone replaced the hw heater on their cat 30? TIA, Harry

Hot Watwe

Harry, I just replaced mine. It was easy. However, it is located under the galley. Anyway, Sailnet has them on sale for $159 with free shipping. West is $269 FOR 6 gallon tank. Hope this helps. Sean

EASY ON MY '88

The water heater will come out through the opening for the three drawers to the port side of the companionway steps. I found this out when I was installing the refrigeration. Hayden Watson S/V Papillon 1988 C30 tr/bs Spokane, WA

Pull out the drawers

Pull out the drawers to the right of the ladder, disconnect everything (you may have to remove the H2O heater wooden base)and pull it out thru the drawer hole. You can reglue the base back down with liquid nails. I'm replacing mine this year. I found Defender had the best price($162 item# 500190) on the exact replacement(Seaward 6 gal). If you want it in a hurry though, I would try elsewhere. Good Luck!

Locations must vary

The locations must vary. My '81 has its water heater in the bottom of the port lazerette. It was relatively easy to replace. I removed the panel between the aft berth and the lazerette.
