First, hi my name is Les. I recently got a free 1977 Cat 27. My problem/question is I can find no hull numbers of any kind on this boat. I have looked in all the places mentioned on hear and other forums. I have the title and the only numbers listed are 629276. Given that there were a total of around 6600 boats made is it possible that a boat made in 1976 would have a hull #that high or were they just randomly issued. Thanks in advance

Hi Les,

I also have a 1977 model, but my hull number is in the 3000 range. The only place I know where the hull number resides (other than registration paperwork) is in the cockpit, behind the aft hatch facing forward on the Catalina plate.

Hi Les,

You should give Catalina a call. I have a 1974 C27 and couldn't find the HIN number. I did have the production number. From that number they were able to give me the HIN number. They have excellent records. I would be surprised if they couldn't help you.

I think your hull number is 6292 (the first four digits from the title) and it may really be a 1976 (the last two digits). Just my guess.

Foolproof guessed "6292" as the hull number and that's still way to high for production back in the '70's. (I had an 86 that was #6111).

My guess would be that 629276 translates into hull build sequence # 629, built in feb ("2") of 1976 ("76").

I believe the new, common format HID (Hull Identification) numbering scheme didn't come into being until around 1980.

Good Luck!
