The sliding pop top hatch on my C22 had "edges" along both sides that fit into the wooden grooves in the wood pieces along both sides of the cabin top. These edges have broken off. Anyone had this problem before? or can anyone tell me how to repair this?

Hatch repair

I had to repair mine a few year ago. Only one place was broken off but it was worn in several places super thin. I took it off turned it upside down, used blue masking tape to build a dam around the track. I cut some cloth for the missing area then poured in epoxy. Removed the tape the next day and sanded and fair-ed the new area. If the rails are worn they can be fixed by mixing graphite with epoxy, tape the ends fill the grove once set run the rails through a table saw (may need two passes to get the grove just right). Use cork for sealant under the rails. You can buy new cork from any auto parts store (don't use the cork from the Home center) the cork sold at the auto store is reinforced with rubber. Cut to fit, you can glue it to the rails to hold it on place. A tip for reinstalling the rails, use two nails pushed up through the top on each end to hold the rails in place, once the inner screws are in place remove the nails replace the screws.

Sliding Hatch Cover Repair

P.P.Y.C. - It seems like the repair you've described (to the sliding hatch fiberglass)would scrape along the upper surface of the pop top when moving the sliding hatch. Is the purpose of the cork under the teak rails to "lift the sliding cover" slightly so the repaied surface doesn't rub? Unfortunately, this repair is hard to conceptualize without pictures. What kind of epoxy do you recommend?

The cork will raise the rail just a bit 1/16" and it will keep the front of the hatch from rubbing the pop top. Its what my boat came from the factory with, of course after many years out in the sun it broke down. I used West System when I did mine.

Going to give it a try!

I'm going to get the West System repair kit and give it a shot. I'll repost to share the results with others when the job is done.
