Cat 22 keel cable buzz

Calling all Cat 22 owners! Do I have to listen to the cable hum all the time the keel is down? Is there a way to slacken the cable to make it quiet? Thanks.

I back the cable off till it doesn't hum, been doing it for years, and I have not had any problems. I suppose the cable could overrun when retracting, but it hasn't happened to my boat. I replaced my cable a year ago, and I didn't see any evidence of wear on the through-deck fitting. David

No to Hummm!

I agree with the previous post. I probably have a few turns out extra so the cable doesn't hum. Just keep cranking out until it goes away.
