casting a new centerboard wedge?

While organizing reinstallation of centerboard on my OD222, found one was made out of wood and smaller than the other one.

Contemplating making a cast with the good one with plaster of paris and using fortified epoxy to make the new wedge and trimming to mirror image.

Any tips out there on this method?

I don't see why you couldn't do that. You could use the other wedge as a pattern to make a "One Off." I've had my wedges out and I had to rebuild them a little with epoxy in the area where the wood screw goes into it. If you can make that wedge exactly like the other one and have it fit in the rabbet groove, it should work. The caulking is what really holds those wedges in place. You can use 3-M 4000, 4200, or even 3-M 5200 and it should hold those wedges with no problem at all.

was curious as to original construction of the wedges. It looks like there was a hard shell and filled with expoxy (probably).

Will be good practice in casting with a plaster mold but will have to fiddle a tad to get the mirror\oposite side.

George- love dem pics. i find it hard to get real close ups. Will be taking a pile more pics this year.
