Cast Aluminum Gooseneck w/tack pin

The boom on my OD 22 is a Kenyon spar, B-section Boom with a cast aluminum gooseneck casting that slips into the hollow end of the boom at the tack end and has a spring loaded pin/hinge assembly for roller reefing. The cast aluminum section was somehow pop riveted to the boom with aluminum rivets. The rivets apparently corroded to powder and pulled out today when I was moving the boom. I slid off the casting and drilled out the rivet heads from the boom. My problem is that the side hole locations on the casting where the old rivets went appear to be into the solid aluminum--there is no hollow section. In other words, there is no place in the existing holes in the casting for the bottom ends of new rivets to pass through and open up when installed (i.e., the holes don't go through--they're dead ends). I haven't tried to put new rivets in there yet. Will pop rivets expand enough in these dead end holes to remain secure?? Would it be better to use screws instead? What kind of screw should I use in solid cast aluminum? Any suggestions or previous experience on this topic?

Gooseneck problems???

I am having the same problem. I thought about doing the same thing with pop type rivits until I found out the O.E.M. fastners are better known as "hammer rivits". So as not to substitute, we should contact D
