I will be flying from the US to Canada to help bring a sailboat back down to California. I want to bring my inflatable pfd with me. I just got off the phone with TSA and it sounds like it's a little unclear if the co2 cartridge is allowed on. Does anybody have any experience with this?

Thanks.

Go to your airline's website and look at their rules. Some airlines want the CO2 cartridge disconnected, some don't.

We regularly carry our inflatable PFD internationally. Checked bags.

We flew to St. Thomas with them in our carry on luggage but the best answer is to check with the airline that you are flying on ours was JetBlue

NO! Do not go by what the airline tells you, go by the TSA!

I learned this the hard way, when I tried to transport my dad's ashes in a somewhat bomb-shaped bronze urn. :(

When I transported my mother's ashes, I left them in the in the sealed box from the crematorium with their labeling intact and the cremation certificate with the remains. I still got stopped in the TSA PreCheck line and the box was swabbed, however, the agent remained respectful and it went quickly.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7; around the time of the ban for the Samsung Note 7 I was scheduled to fly overseas and heard some rumors about people with Galaxy S7 having to surrender their phones or be denied boarding. I called both the airline and the TSA and although both confirmed the S7 was not on the prohibited list neither could give me a guarantee that I would not have a problem. It seems certain agents might not know the difference or would prefer you donate your equipment. It is not the time to address these issues at the check-in line so if you think there could be a problem and are getting unclear responses it would be best to leave the CO2 cartridges at home and purchase some in Canada. Oh by the way I purchased a throwaway phone with service for 30 days and limited data for the trip and it worked well.

This dates back to 2013 but as far as I know it has not changed. I printed a copy and left it in my carry on with the pfd. I also had another copy for presentation to the airline when checking in. Had some questions from the agents and security but never a problem. Have a nice trip.
