Any thoughts about carpeting the cabin sole? Good idea, bad idea? Is there anywhere to get a pre cut and bound carpet for a Cat 30? Is there anyone who has a carpet in their Catalina 30 who lives in the New London, CT area? I would like to come by and visit and make a template of the carpet so I can cut my own. Are the floor patterns the same for different years? Mine is a 1983. Thanks Michael

Carpet

I don't think carpet's a bad idea, as long as it's used more like a rug (in other words, don't glue it down). You might have to replace every few years cuz of mildew, dirt, etc, but no biggie. Just keep the template & it's easy. LaDonna

carpet is good

Hi I installed carpet in my catalina and it worked well.Use a piece of heavy paper to make atemplate.Find a carpet that can stand moisture and be washed off and I used snaps placed around the perimeter to hold in place. The binding for the edge will probably cost more than the carpet good luck

One thing you'll want to do....

I have carpet in mine & it's great. It really makes the boat more cozy. I went with a burbur carpet in beige that I got from Home Depot for under $100. It's really tough & they have a special type that won't absorb moisture...ask the guys there & they'll tell you what kind to get. One thing though...GET THE ENDS BOUND by a local carpet company. The frayed ends on my carpet created long nylon type strands that could have gotten into the bilge pump & fouled it. Binding cost an additional $45. Well worth the investment. Good luck! C30 carpet

Catalina Yachts has carpet kits for less than $280, grey color only. The original carpet in our C30 is now 14 years old. It is a little faded, and it has some spots, but it is still servicible--and comfortable! Chuck COLUMBINE

Remnants

I just replaced mine with a 12x7 remnant for $5.00 brand new. The catch is that it is not one continuous piece. The part you cut out is used for the head and the bow portion of the floor. It doesn't bother me and I figure for 5 bucks I will have new carpet whenever I want.

I had carpet

I had carpet when we bought the boat. I took it out because w/ two small kids I couldn't keep it clean. We now use velcro held runners. They are easier to remove and sweep up what ever falls off. They are also easier to dry if it gets wet. I kept the old bound carpet for over a year, but threw it out this spring. Sorry.
