Carpet tacking tips?

I've owned sailboats for most of my years--many--and I've always had carpets I inherited, cut myself, or done without. But never have I found a great way to keep them secure, yet easily removed when required.So any of you out there who have found solutions to the agony-of-da-feet down on the sole of your boat, please share.Appreciate it!RickDances with Waves

We used a heavy siliconized synthetic rubber paint that soaks into the backing to prevent rot and mildew, adds a pound or so to the pieces and prevents them from slipping around. Manufacturer is Gaco Western products, $100.00/gallon.

double sided tape or velcro strips.

Have been used. The tape dries out and is hard to get off the fiberglass. Been using heavier velcro, but now it's pulling the backing off the carpet. The rubber paint idea sounds different though...Rick

The carpet just got too funky looking.

Just took out my carpet from the cockpit. Used indoor/outdoor and the dye stained my sheets blue. It was nice this weekend just being able to mop the floor and dirt back to the scupper hole. 5 minutes and it looked really fresh. I might just paint mine or put in some fake wood. The cabin carpet looks nice and held it in place with 3-M spray-on upholstery adhesive.Frank

3 M makes a great product

I'm not sure if it will work for your application with wear and tear but I have been installing new hull liner with the 3 M product made for cars and such. Easiest darn stuff I've used and sticks like crazy without heavy build up of adhesive.To take off the glue or other I'm using Franmar soy stripper, washes down with water and also easy to use.It might be worth a testLaurie

I use 3M around the edges

to reduce work if I need to remove later.
