Carl, I saw the picturs of your new anchor roller and it looks great. Would you (or anyone else who has done this project) mind providing a more detailed description of how you did that - especially how you attached it to the existing bow? I would love to install something like this, but I am not sure how to attach it to the boat in a way that the downward torque of the weight of the anchor will not pull the roller off the front of the boat. Thanks! Tom FitzGibbon H33 "Plan B"

Bow spirit

First I cut off the front of the anchor locker lid and epoxied it in place. Then I built up the inside of the deck area with ply and west system so that it is even with the outer walls. About 2 inches. I built the platform out of 17 pieces of teak which are glued and through bolted together. On of the bolt serves as the pin for the anchor roller. Slots are cut out for the head stay and anchor roller before assembly. The samson post and windless are bolted all the way through using 8" stainless bolts with backing plates and serve to hold the whole thing on to the boat. So far thay have done fine including last summers hurricane. Any questions just e-mail me and I will be glad to help in any way I can.

Anchor Platform

I built a platform on my 33last spring that is similar to the the platforms being discussed. Mine is four feet long by 18 inches wide by 2 inches thick. The aft edge of the platform sits forward if the anchor locker lid and still provides two feet of contact on the bow so there's no need to modify the lid. Due to the width I cut back the vertical portion of the toe rails about 8 inches back. The platform is bolted through the toe rails and hull/deck joint as well as the eight bolts holding the two heavy duty Herreschoff cleats on top of the platform. with the width i chose there's enough room to hang two anchors off the bow. So far it hasn't moved a whit. You're welcome to come down to Forked River to take a look if you want. Some day when I have some time on my hands I hope to post some pictures on the site.
