Jay Those have been around for a while. 1st time I saw them was about 2 to 3 yearsago. More or less the time when it was decided that it was not a good idea tohave the yacht crew ride the boat from the ship into the water. Which at thetime was a regular routine. A client of mine with Hapag Lloyd claimed theevent from a ship of thiers. I believe he stated it happened in New Zealand orAustralia. About 3 weeks ago I attended a large casino boat that was being loaded onto aship rigged for heavy lift capability. The casino boat weighed 260 metrictons. once positioned over the ship's hatches the forward strap slipped and itlanded hard on the ship. None of the persons involved in this lift wererookies or inexperienced but what occured was that the spreader bar during thelift came in contact with the aft boom of the crane. this caused a strain onthe lift which pulled on the fwd straps. And then it happened. Luckily no onewas on the casino boat and no one was anywhere near the casino boat when ithit the deck. These pictures may seem humorus but they clearly illustrate whatcan happen when complacency sets in and trust is placed where trust should notbe placed.
