Careening Catalina 30 wing keel

Hi All,
I would like to give my boat a bottom scrub. Doesn't need new bottom paint quite yet. The boat is on a swing mooring and getting a diver to do the job is a hassle. My questions are..
Will the boat sit comfortably on the keel without falling over? I would secure with ropes to nearby mangroves
Is the keel sufficiently strong to support the total weight of the boat?
What do you think?

Whenever my boat is stored on the hard, she sits on her wing keel and is balanced by stands at the bow and 2 on each side of the hull. I try to keep the boat plumb so that the wings of the keel are not touching the ground when I set her on a 6x6. Good luck.

When I was setting up the keel support for the C27 I called Catalina Woodland Hills to see how much the support should be carrying. He said about 80% of the weight. He also said that the keel could handle 100%. He said that some people find a ramp to ground at a high tide and tie the boat to the dock or pier and wait for the tide to go out to clean their bottoms.

You also don't have to have the entire boat out of the water. I careened our C25 fin keel years ago up a river. Tide went out maybe three feet, so i could get the hull, but not all the way down the keel, but usually the nasties grow higher anyway. It depends on what kinda of total tide change you expect at the location you choose.

I dive on mine when it is in the water. I don't have tanks. You can do it a section at a time this way. I have even changed zincs in the water like this.

Just be careful of your rudder. The rudder is the same depth as your keep so you would like to have the rudder in the slightly deeper water.

When we hauled my Catalina 310 last month, the wooden block under the keel was knocked out of place, and one of the wings was on top of the trailer, with the hydraulic supports keeping the hull upright and supporting some of the weight. The operator of the Brownell asked if I wanted to continue the haul, and I said to go ahead, she's been grounded on one wing before, with no damage. Sure enough, once she was blocked and the jackstands were in place, we inspected the wing, and everything was fine. They are pretty tough keels.
