I am looking for advice on taking care of the wooden flooring in the cabin of my H260. So far I have just cleaned it with a damp towel or used minwax floor cleaner. Is there anything else I should be using?

Veneer

My thoughts are that this flooring is veneer on ply. So the chances are it is pretty thin and will not take a lot of sanding before you go through the teak into the ply? We simply apply teak oil every 4-5 months. By the way ours is lifting off the floor and I guess we will have to rip it up and re-glue in a short while.

I use Shaklee's "Basic H"

I went thru several products as well, trying to find a good cleaner without damaging the veneer. Murphy's oil soap doesn't work very well. Years ago I was a Shaklee distributor, and have used their product called "Basic H" for years for amost everything. It is a very mild cleaner and does not hurt the environment. It cleans by physical action, not chemical. I use about half-ounce of Basic H to a quart of water, and gently scrub the floor with a fairly soft brush, then just wipe up with a rag(tee-shirt). It removes the dirt very well, does not hurt the wood, then when it is dry, I just rub in Fornby's Lemon Oil. The result is terrific. Try it...You can get Basic H from any Shaklee distributor in any town. It cost about five bucks...but goes a long way and can be used for thousands of things. Kills insects, just spray on(diluted) and they suffocate. Makes grass grow better, etc....Good luck.

Keep it clean and refinish every few years.

Dave: Mark makes a good point about veneer. You want to keep it clean with whatever product you find that works the best. You may want to also do a very light sanding of the existing finish (do not get into the wood) and apply a couple of coats of finish every few years to keep it looking new. I would also suggest that you treat the edges where ever possible. If the veneer gets wet they tend to delaminate.

A toughee

Mine is practically brand new and I got some ugly stains, like grease from when they did engine work, that wouldn't wash out with anything. So I sanded it down and applied some McCloskey's stain. Unfortunately it stains the lighter wood also, so this may not have been the best decision. I suppose I should have used a clear finish. It doesn't look that great, but better than before. Daly's Profin

I used Daly's profin satin oil finish, its a clear coat ,I gave it three coats and used steel wool in between coats, it does a great job protecting the wood floor,I did both sides and it looks great easy to clean, did same to table.

Krud Kutter

The sole in the cabin of my 1984 Hunter 25.5 had apparently never been cleaned until I did it last fall. I found that Krud Kutter got rid of most of the grime. Spray it on and scrub with a medium bristle brush, wipe off with a damp sponge and let it thoroughly dry. I then lightly sanded it and applied 3 coats of Cetol. I sure looks a lot better and seems to be holding up well. I also used the cleaner on the other wood in the cabin followed by liberal amounts of lemon oil.

Murphy's Wood Soap

I use Murphy's Wood Soap. It cleans and treats the wood too.

Damage

I had some water leak onto my floor, and then the sun beat on it for a week ( I knew I should've bought curtains ). The floor was darkened, and blistered in a 6in X 3in in area? Can I sand this out or something? Then clear coat it?
