carbon monoxide detector

My V berth carbon monoxide detector is beeping each time I arrive at my boat to sail. The engine is obviously off, but the boat is closed up. The detector in the main cabin ( aft part of the boat ) does not go off. It is not a battery because these detectors are hard wired in. When I get to the boat and set off the test button it re-sets and I do not here it anymore until the next time I arrive at the boat.

What could be making this go off? and, more important, how do I correct it?

Thank you
Mike J

Mike,
Your CO Detector is at the end of it's life very likely. The modern versions are designed to warn you when they need replacement. CO sensors degrade over time and loose their ability to sense at the correct concentrations. Check the website for Fireboy-Xintex.

Seems the older units are prone to false alarms. The newer units have been standardized to sound at levels of 70 ppm instead of 30 ppm. This was done to reduce the number of false alarm call responses to residential users. The level of 70 ppm is considered adequately safe. Some are set off by battery gases emitted by the charging process and others chemical gases emitted by cleaning fluids, foam cushions or other. If you can smell an odor in the boat something is being gasified. These sensors have a sensing element that deteriorates with time and although the newer ones now claim a life of 10 years I would not keep an older one that was more than 5 years old.

Like I said mine starting do same as your one at a time and have 3 of them and the hardwire marine ones are $$$$$ so replaced one look the same as factory ones but use 3 AA batteries and they do both smoke and carbon and talk too
I think they were $49 or $39 each and been working great for a few years now.
They are round shape just like my old ones and have test button that has alarm plus talking,so much better at ACE or Home Depot.

Even though hard wired they do also contain a battery. 9 volt.
Mine needed a new battery, then shut off the power to the system and it resets.
Be a good first step before replacing.
Although as others have said they do have a life span and eventually need to be replaced.
