Has anyone had problems with there carbon monoxide alarm activating in hot weather with the boat closed up? We just purchased a 2003 H-386, closed it up to leave for a few days, the dock attendant called and said our carbon monoxied dector in the v-berth was set off, he opened a couple of hatches for an hour or so and closed them. The next day same thing happened-OAT has been mid-80's.

If you had some organic compound giving off vapors (e.g. gasoline tanks, propane cylinders, buckets of glue) in the hot closed boat that could set off the carbon monoxide detector, especially if it is (as it should be) positioned low inside the boat. Those detectors are sensitive to other gases as well as CO.

Presumably you did not leave a propane fridge running or anything obvious like that.

We had the same problem with the aft cabin CO alarm but our forward birth alarm didn't go off. One of the dealers at the last boat show said that it was a problem with the device and they are addressing it.
However...
as Johnb stated they are sensitive to many different gasses.
we are getting a battery operated one to replace the aft cabin's.

the sensors in those CO detectors have a short life-as little as 3 years in the marine environment, where there are lots of airborne contaminants, so you may just have to replace them on a regular basis.
