Looked for this product here but didn't fine it. Ordered an 8oz bottle for $13. West Marine had it for $14, but in a 2oz bottle. Anyway... Anyone ever use this stuff? Experiences? Did it work for you? I should get it next week and I'll write a review on the stuff for the records. I have lots of spider cracks that need to be filled.

How did you apply on...

vertical spider cracks, Rob? Did it "creep" up (literally) into the crack?

Cracks

Brian- I applied CTCC to cracks that were somewhat vertical. Yes, it did flow into the crack. On these areas I applied multiple applications. One reccommendation is to wipe the overflow before it dries. It hardens and is tough to remove and flies stick in it. Rob

Great stuff

Capt'n Tolley's Creepy Crack Cure, 2 oz. size, took the place of 1-5 gallon pail and 2-1 gallon pails on my Catalina. NEVER have a boat without it. It fills leaks where you swear there is no place for a leak to exist. Put it around the head of bolts for chain plates - no need to loosen anything.

stained gel coat

I use CTCC on crack lines on deck gel coat. When dried, CTCC turns dark. Could remove the dark stain look. So be careful when using it on visible area where looks is important.

I seem to recall

That if you mix epoxy properly, you can then dilute it with acetone, and use it like CTCC. Yes, by all means, let us know how it works. I'll buy it by the gallon. And where did you find 8oz.?

I am getting the 8oz bottle from...

http://www.onlinemarine.com Select "Maintenance" on the left side panel, then at the bottom you'll see the Capt'n Tolley CC. Kind of funny. The SRP for the 2oz bottle is $12.99 yet WM sells it for $14.

Brian- Eight ounces will take care of the Maltese Falcon. Everyplace that I could find the 2oz size is $13-$14. Your point is that you don't like West Marine's prices. Start a new spring of 08' flaming on them, it's got to be that time again!

LOL- Rob...

True, I don't agree with WM pricing, but I will not go out and flame them. I need them sometimes too. I was in there the other day picking up 4 #10x1" screws. They didn't charge for them. So I can't flame them all together.

...will repair leaks caused by cracks in cored decks. It penetrates the damaged wood beneath the crack giving it an epoxy like hardness. Do not expect it to provide cosmetic repair. Use a gel coat repair kit for that part.

just ordered the big bottle

the shipping is $8.00+ but is still a bargain. I plan to swab it on everywhere I can beneath the waterline... Uh Huh. It's been awhile since I visited. I used to be active on the Oday site.

Joe....

...You sound as if you've used it. You say it's not a cosmetic repair but does it at least level the surface out? I have a small outboard skiboat (1962 Glasspar G3, for anybody else that knows what that is) that I bought to restore. It has many spider cracks and if this stuff leaves a fairly level surface it would save me a lot of work. I plan on priming and painting with Interlux Brightsides anyway. The alternative is to scrape each crack with the corner of a scraper to leave a v-shaped groove and fill with thickened epoxy or Marinextex, then lots of sanding (I have A LOT of cracks to fill). I've used Capt Tolley for years

and on a number of boats. It's a very good product. I used it to seal a leaky toe rail on my old Sea Sprite. I now mostly use it for routine spring maintenance, that is, I run a bead of Tolley around the head of every screw that bolts something to or thru the deck. A small bottle lasts a long time. Well worth the price.

Unfortunately the answer is no, CTCC is not a substatute for finishing. The way you are planning to take care of your spider cracks is the correct method. I wish this wasnt the case.
