We've covered boat names but what about nick names for the owners or captains or crew? I have a buddy who's always yelling at other boaters for rule violations (no wake, etc.) and he's known as Capt. Patrol. Another guy in our marina had his boat catch fire and explode. He narrowly escaped but since is known as Capt. Sparky. Another guy's name is Ron so, of course he's Capt. Ron. Any others? Thanks, Capt. Merlot.

One of our sailors always sailed with only his jib (wore clothes) and was known as "one-sail-wally".

I have frequently referred to my husband as Captain Flog for reasons that should be obvious.

One of the guys on my dock refers to his wife as BOB (Bitch on Board) and I am frequently referred to as the Battery Nazi.

We used to have a guy at our club that, though he had his CG license, was not a very good sailor despite years of boat ownership. After he hit another boat under power we called him Captain Crunch.

I am obviously Captain Jack and of course the song is in every playlist on the dock.

We have a retired police captain in our circle that is just plain old Captain.

There's a guy on D Dock who never takes his power boat out, never stops cleaning it, and rolls out a Brady Bunch carpet on the T and puts an entire patio out, he is affectionately known as Admiral Fiddlef...

The attorney/politician owner of the large Bertram in the middle of all of our boats, who can't maintain, launch, dock or do anything without specific direction from a bunch of us sailors is Clear Head.

The former dockmate who was fired from his marina job for racial comments toward a fellow employee was called Ed the Head because we believe that he would store human bodies in his bilge....jokingly of course.

Our son, Sean, who is known by everyone in the marina...even people WE don't know walk by and say "Hi, Sean."... is known by all as "The Mayor". He is only 7!

The snazzy dressed, self proclaimed womanizer, who may have an affinity for young girls (again jokingly), is Creepy Dock Guy.

We have John, the Dock Nazi, who walks around telling us all what we are doing wrong with our boats. According to his wife, he is to afraid to take out his Chapparal 41, which is beautiful, so he only takes out his Whaler. I'm sure every dock has one! Nice guy, though. Loaned me a tool once and refused to take it back because it "was used on a blow boat". He is our conversion project!

One of our closest friends, a Spanish native who served in the Spanish Navy and is retired after 20 years with NASA and another 20 as a VP from GE Aerospace, is known as "The Most Interesting Man in the World" because he has the best stories and he sounds just like the Dos Equis guy.

The list is endless!

After a week-long trip with my local scout troop in 2009:

Dead below - always went below to sleep after we got underway
Nav - best navigator in the crew
PB - didn't take his motion sickness meds
PBJ - well, you get the picture!
Dead wind - wind was non-existent when he was on the helm
Thumper - forgot to properly stow the sinker on his fishing pole - thump, thump, . . .
Flounder - youngest in the crew, tended to flounder

We own a 1982 AquaCat 12.5 and a 1986 Hunter 23. Not exactly the most impressive of fleets but I still refer to myself as the Captain of the Fleet.

When I put together a bareboat charterfor my wife's birthday a few years back, we had two boats. Because I put the trip together, my wife jokingly said I must be the Fleet Admiral. One of my friends asked, "Is that like a Fleet Enema?" So, I became the Fleet Enema for the rest of the trip.

My last name is Smith, so I'm Capt. John Smith, who happens to sail the Chesapeake Bay... Naturally my wife is Pocahantus, which is her forum name.
