Lynn,My Loos gauge came with a sheet of instructions that gave recommended tensions for shrouds and stays based on the wire diameter. If you don't have yours, let me know what diameter and configuration (e.g., 1 x 19, 1/8" stainless steel) and I can look it up for you the next time I'm at the marina.
Lynn,For 1/8" diameter 1 x 19 stainless steel rigging, Loos lists a breaking strength of 2100 pounds. Loos recommends 15% of the breaking strength (320 pounds)for the forestay, and 10 to 12% (240 pounds)for both the upper and lower shrouds. For fractional rigs with swept back spreaders, as much as 20% may be required for the upper shrouds. The April 2004 issue of Sailing magazine has a good article on rig tuning if you can get a back issue.Vince
Vince,Thanks for the tensions for the shroud lines. I didn't want to over tension them because the mast on the 16.5 is deck mounted and I was afraid I might cause cracking. Thanks for your help.Lynn Bluett
