Last year I bought a 1988 Capri-18 in exceptional condition with the intention of adding a larger genoa sail for light wind conditions. Overall my experience with the capri- 18 has been completely unregrettable but I've been sailing a few months now on the hudson river and I have in fact noticed that in light winds (around 10 knots or less) the boat is slow at best and completely stationary at worst. I would like to know if anyone has experience with what size genoa is best and where a good place to get it might be.

Welcome to the world of C18 ownership. I use a 135 furling genoa on my '93 C18. It's on a CDI FF-2 furler. The 135 is a good all-around sail, as the 150 sails are usually lighter cloth and will blow out sooner if used in stronger winds. It was recommended to me that if I needed a better light winds headsail, to use a drifter-style assym spinnaker (no pole needed).
