I've acquired a 1978 Capital 24.. It is not a Captial Neptune, Gulf, or Newport.. Is there anyone out there who either has one, or had one, or knows about this boat?? I can't find any other boat like this one on the internet. It has what I would describe as a Ted Hood Whale bottom, with below waterline rudder and swing keel towards the stern of the boat rather than amidships. It's a very well made boat and the hardware and rigging exceed standards I've ever seen on a 24. Basically I;m looking for specifications and anyother pertinent information, such as who designed it, and how many more are out there, how it should perform, etc..

I've never seen or heard of anything like it but, speaking as a boat designer, it looks like one of the most intelligently designed swing heel hulls I've seen. I would be quite optimistic about her sailing characteristics.

Are you sure it is a capital? Have you found any HIN on the boat? Sail logo?

I;m sure only due to the fact that the title says it is a Captial. I have been unable to find any Hull ID #'s anywhere on the baot. And I mean anywhere. The sails have no insignia or numbers..

I have seen many titles that are wrong. As the boat gets sold from owner to owner, they each have a different idea of what the boat actually is especially without a HIN to verify.

It also may not be a 24. Measure it to see if it is within a ft. of that. Measure from the end of the pulpit to the end of the transom. Basically the distance it would need to fit in a garage.

Interesting design, if you could retract that keel a bit more you could spin it around on it's waterline with ease!

looks more like a 60's design, and lack of a hin would indicate pre-73 model year.

Would like to see more of it. Definitely needs a bath though!

Agree, many boats are moved from states without titles into states that require them, or purchased without them, and the new owner is stuck coming up with a year for it.

If it is a 1978 boat, it should have two HINs. One should be on the starboard transom. The other can be almost anywhere. As Kendall said, the lack of a HIN on the transom means that it is probably a pre-1972 boat.
