A bigger factor...

is comfort. The boat will do fine with three 300-lb. people, but I'm not sure they'd be comfortable.

Capacity? Human or gear?

If human weight is in question, get smaller girlfriends!!!!

People?

My ASA textbook sez multiply the boat's length (in feet) by its width and divide by 15, to "estimate the maximum number of people who can safely ride in the boat on a calm day." But you probably don't want 11 people on your h22. The three 300-pounders Bill mentioned count as six people. Mac

Whole Family

I don't know about weight, but our 22 accomodates my family of four quite well. (2 adults, 2 children under 10). The Gibsons

Weight

More than four people you would want to count on only four in the cockpit for comfort. Number 4 and 5 on the deck will help with accommodations in the cock pit. I also find the stern to drag a lot without a person up front even with only three in the cockpit. That extra person up front sure helps the bow stay down in the waves. I you do not care how fast you are moving let them all stay in the cockpit as long as you do not mind the water comming in through the scuppers and you r motor can be raised up high enough not to get swamped. I've had...

6 people, total weight 1000 lbs in my 1981 H22's cockpit and found no problem. Balance the load, and when she heels the bigger folks move to the high side. No water comes in or anything. She did however steer a little easier with the kids laying on the foredeck.

Thanks everyone. I had five

in the cockpit with no real problem. Light winds made it easy. I agree the weight that far aft made a difference. Of course, there were a few "move your butt comments". Other than that, no problem. Heavy weather would give me second thoughts though. Thanks, Jim
