I suggest you use Sailrite sparingly. Get Don Casey's book on canvas and sail repair. Try your hand at a small project first, using a regular sewing macine--borrow one from a friend if you don't have one. My first project was a sailbag kit from Sailrite, for less than $20. After that I researched and got a fairly heavy duty Kenmore sewing machine for around $500. It's been great for canvas jobs for me, including some rudimentary sail repairs. Good luck!
