Canvass snaps

As careful as I am, I have found that the snaps on our bimini and dodger come apart. I looked and found that the shanks are really short and have very little purchase on their backing plates. I have two questions. One, how important is it to cover the plastic windows on the dodger? And, how are they repaired/replaced?

What you might consider is having your canvas man add two additional layers of Sunbrella,if that is what you have, around th epoints where the snaps attach and put longer snaps on. Also there is a lubricant available which will make them easier to use which will in turn be less fatiguing on the snaps. If you don't cover the plastic windows they will yellow and fog up faster but they should be replaceable if the canvas is in good shape.

You can buy snap kits that include the male and female snaps as well as the little tool to install them at Wast Marine. Bob
